Continue or Game Over
Oct 28, 2014
Do you often hear those words in game? You can easily save your game as much as you want and you can resume it again whenever you want. But it doesn't work with real life. Once you make wrong decision then it could be regret for the rest of your life.
Once I was faced into two difficult decisions. First, leave my paradise, my hometown, my parents, to move to another city but I can continue my study and find a good work in big city. Or living peacefully in my hometown, together with parents but stuck in the boring job that doesn't suit my passion and education at all. Second, to continue my master degree or taking a job offer.
Well, I did take the challenge. I eventually left my hometown for two years now and just start working. Because living in the big city, everything are expensive so I couldn't be extravagant to spend money. I worked part time every weekends to save more money. Yes, I rarely had free time in weekdays and no holidays in weekends. As you know, master degree doesn't have too many classes, but it has quite numbers of papers, presentations to be done in short deadline. But I am really grateful that I passed Japanese Language Profiency Test N-2 because of my part-time work, it's not only about work but I got to study too. Also, I met a lot of new people from my part time work and it helped me to get idea for my thesis. I almost finish my master degree, it's only one year more for me to finish the study.
Though I have decided to take temporary leave from University to work. The job offer came when I was having Idul Fitri holiday. I couldn't turn down the offer, because it's from the company that I have been wishing to work there for the last three years, yes I had been waiting for three years! But I was torn to choose between my study or to work. And again, I took the challenge. I took temporary leave from University to start working. At first, I planned to take both. But since the schedules couldn't meet, so I decided to leave my study temporarily.
I am paid well. My parents don't have to send me allowance anymore, and I can save more money too. My dad is already retired so I don't want to burden my parents with financial matter. I am glad that I already stepped up a bit to be independent. My dad once said that sacrifice one thing for something else that worth more. I sacrificed my study, but it doesn't mean I give up about my study yet. I am not letting my study to be "Game Over" yet, I just saved it so I can press "Continue" later.
